For those of you not shopping today, I've put together a little tutorial on how I created this funky background.
|This layout was originally created for Creative Scrappers Sketch #256|
I knew I could pull out my Cameo to create a file for this type of cut, but figured it would be faster to simply pull out a scrap piece of cover stock and get to work.
I measured out a 7x7" square piece of cover stock, marked the centre spot, and drew lines at various widths from centre to the edge.
I then numbered all my wedges, making it easier to recreate the shape with my patterned paper.
I then got to work cutting. The original background in the sketch was more of a perfect hexagon, but I wanted to change it up a little so I cut various portions off the end of my wedges.
|I traced the numbered shapes onto scraps. I mostly used those of the School House collection, but I see a little Happy Place in there too. I then used just a touch of adhesive to glue each piece to another scrap piece of paper (just regular paper will do, no need for a heavy textured paper here).|
Once all my pieces were cut and aligned, I then used my sewing machine to stitch the sections together. Then I trimmed off all the excess scrap paper underneath my shape. And voila, your background is finished.
Because I'm still in love with banners I added one here using that gorgeous woodgrain patterned paper. Topped with a few veneer shapes, I think it's pretty darn cute.
For my title is free hand drew a semi circle around my funky background, and then lined up alphas to create my title. Because these alphas tend to have trouble sticking, I stitched through them as well.
For the finishing touch I added a bit of journaling and some of the fabulous gold star rub ons from our Good Tidings Collection. There you have it, easy peasy right?!
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Oh, and if you're still in the mood to shop, be sure to check out our super spectacular Black Friday sales here.
